6th Annual Community Matters

Please join JFS as we celebrate our 6th Annual Community Matters Event which honors outstanding leaders who have made a difference in our community.  Our 2024 honoree is Dr. Margaret Sheldon.

Born and raised in Bridgeport, CT, Margaret Vogel Sheldon earned a BA in physics from Bryn Mawr College and a Ph.D. in biophysics at the University of Chicago. She came to our area when her husband Douglas Sheldon opened a dermatology practice in Scranton. While raising their three sons, Margaret became an involved community volunteer, especially in the Jewish Community. She served as president of Temple Israel, The Jewish Federation, the Scranton Chapter of Hadassah, and Webster Towers. She is currently on the boards of Webster Towers, Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab, the Jewish Foundation for the Elderly, The Jewish Federation, Temple Israel, and JFS.
