Community Organization of the Game: An Evening with the Railriders!

by Arthur E. Levandoski

On August 19, 2015 Jewish Family Service was the Scranton Wilkes Barre Railriders Community Organization of the Game.  Although the evening got started with a little rain shower by the time the ballpark gates opened the rain had given way to a beautiful summer evening.

The Community Organization of the Game is an outreach program that allows a different local community organization to be spotlighted at the ballpark during every home game.  As part of the program the organization gets to set up a table at the park entrance to offer brochures and speak to people about the organizations goals and mission, during our evening at the Railriders we spoke to many people about what JFS has to offer, we even had some special guests stop by to say hello!

Pregame Jewish Family Service was able to speak to everyone attending the game about who we are and what we offer as well as how to contact us.  The on field interview prior to the game was great exposure for JFS.  As the community organization of the game we even had a JFS representative throw out the first pitch, in our case we got a pro to do it for us!

Along with the on field interview prior to the start of the game during the 4th inning JFS Executive Director Sheila Nudelman Abdo headed to the SWB Railrides Radio Network booth to sit down and chat with Darren Headrick for a very exciting interview!

The exposure that JFSNEPA received as part of the community organization of the game will hopefully continue the awareness of JFS and JFS services in our local community.  In order for community support we need to continue to get out in front of our community and let them know the good that JFS is doing.   The Railriders should be applauded for such a great program which allows organizations like JFS to not only get the word out but have a great time doing it.

Everyone at JFS did have a great time too, we thank everyone who came out to support JFS at PNC Field on August 19th, the Railriders ended the night with a win over the Iron Pigs and a few new fans in the stands!
